Royal Ascot day 4 full race card and tips - list of runners on Friday

Royal Ascot has been a battle between Aidan O'Brien and the John and Thady Gosden team so far, with both camps responsible for five winners each heading into the penultimate day of the meeting. They will both be expected to add to their respective tallies over the next two days, but it is other powerhouse stables who have the market leaders in Friday's two Group Ones - the Commonwealth Cup and the Coronation Stakes. Charlie Appleby is seeking his first winner of the week and Shadow Of Light could give him it in the Commonwealth Cup. The 2,000 Guineas third is being backed for the first Group 1 of the day, with his jockey William Buick riding brilliantly this week. Juddmonte are doubly represented in the six furlong contest and Babouche, a recent Group 3 winner at Naas for Ger Lyons, might just be the best of their chances under Colin Keane, while the Andrew Balding-trained Jonquil is partnered by leading France-based Belgian jockey Christophe Soumillon. Meanwhile, French runner Zarigana looks set to go off favourite for trainer Francis-Henri Graffard in the Coronation Stakes, with Mickael Barzalona taking the ride. The French 1,000 Guineas winner is vying for favoritism with Pretty Polly Stakes victor Falakeyah, while Aidan O'Brien's January is being backed, having finished eighth behind stablemate Lake Victoria in the Irish 1,000 Guineas last month. Here's a full list of the runners and riders, as well as a tip for each race: 2.30pm: 6f Albany Stakes (Group 3) (Fillies) (Class 1) (2yo) 1 Awaken (IRE) B Loughnane2 Balantina (IRE) Tom Marquand3 Bibi Dahl (USA) U Rispoli4 Fairy Oak Colin Keane5 Fitzella Oisin Murphy6 Gold Digger (IRE) Jamie Spencer7 Green Sense (IRE) Dylan McMonagle8 Indigo Dawn (IRE) Pat Dobbs9 Ipanema Queen (IRE) David Egan10 Magny Cours (IRE) Mickael Barzalona11 Nandita (IRE) William Buick12 Oh Cecelia (IRE) James Ryan13 Senorita Vega (IRE) Richard Kingscote14 Signora (IRE) Ryan Moore15 Spinning Lizzie Kieran Shoemark16 Tahalel (IRE) Sean Levey17 Venetian Sun (IRE) Clifford Lee Tip: Ipanema Queen 3.05pm: 6f Commonwealth Cup (Group 1) (No Geldings) (Class 1) (3yo) 1 Ain't Nobody (IRE) Tom Eaves2 Arabie Clifford Lee3 Arizona Blaze David Egan4 Berkshire Whisper (IRE) Kieran Shoemark5 Big Mojo (IRE) Hollie Doyle6 Diablo Rojo (IRE) Rossa Ryan7 Ides Of March (IRE) Wayne Lordan8 Jonquil Christophe Soumillon9 Shadow Of Light William Buick10 Soldier's Heart Callum Shepherd11 Strong Warrior Oisin Orr12 Whistlejacket (IRE) Ryan Moore13 Arabian Dusk Harry Davies14 Babouche Colin Keane15 Carla Ridge (IRE) Chris Hayes16 Lady With The Lamp (IRE) Dylan McMonagle17 Leovanni (IRE) James Doyle18 Rayevka (IRE) Mickael Barzalona19 Sayidah Dariyan (IRE) B Loughnane20 Shisospicy (USA) Oisin Murphy21 Sky Majesty (IRE) Tom Marquand22 Time For Sandals (IRE) Richard Kingscote Tip: Shadow Of Light 3.40pm: 1m4f (1m3f211y) Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes (Handicap) (GBBPlus Race) (Class 2) (3yo+ 0-105) 1 Teumessias Fox (IRE) P J McDonald2 Flight Leader Saffie Osborne3 See Hector (GER) Pat Dobbs4 Caviar Heights (IRE) Tom Marquand5 Mutaawid Jim Crowley6 Naqeeb (IRE) R Sexton7 Hand Of God William Buick8 Mount Atlas Rob Hornby9 Stressfree (FR) Daniel Tudhope10 Max Mayhem Mickael Barzalona11 Siege Of Troy Oisin Murphy12 French Duke (IRE) James Doyle13 War Rooms (IRE) Colin Keane14 Almosh'her Clifford Lee15 Auld Toon Loon (IRE) Pierre Jamin16 Brodure (IRE) Christophe Soumillon17 Blue Lemons (IRE) B Loughnane18 Ethical Diamond (IRE) Ryan Moore19 Satin Shane Foley20 HMS President (IRE) Reserve 121 Crystal Flyer Reserve 222 Cumulonimbus (IRE) Reserve 3 Tip: Mutaawid 4.20pm: 1m (7f213y) (Rnd) Coronation Stakes (Group 1) (Fillies) (Class 1) (3yo) 1 Cathedral David Egan2 Cercene (IRE) Gary Carroll3 Chantilly Lace (IRE) Rossa Ryan4 Duty First Hollie Doyle5 Exactly (IRE) Wayne Lordan6 Falakeyah Jim Crowley7 Flight Oisin Murphy8 January (IRE) Ryan Moore9 Kon Tiki William Buick10 Simmering Dylan McMonagle11 Zarigana Mickael Barzalona Tip: Zarigana 5.00pm: 1m (Str) Sandringham Stakes (Fillies' Handicap) (Class 2) (3yo 0-105) 1 Tabiti Colin Keane2 Betty Clover William Buick3 Serving With Style Clifford Lee4 Mojave River (FR) Dylan McMonagle5 Bountiful B Loughnane6 Silver Ghost (IRE) Sean Levey7 Sweet Chariot (IRE) Ryan Moore8 Amangani (IRE) Wayne Lordan9 Nancy J (IRE) Shane Foley10 Supermodel (IRE) Tom Marquand11 Miss Nightfall Oisin Murphy12 Never Let Go Kieran Shoemark13 Zgharta (IRE) Hollie Doyle14 Trad Jazz Harry Davies15 Oolong Poobong (IRE) Connor Beasley16 Saariselka Mickael Barzalona17 Cartwheel Andrew Slattery18 Dash Of Azure Richard Kingscote19 Cajole Saffie Osborne20 Sea Poetry (IRE) Trevor Whelan21 Purple Rainbow Warren Fentiman (5)22 Annsar Jack Doughty23 Bassadanza Joe Fanning24 Dancing Teapot (IRE) Chris Hayes25 Alfareqa David Probert26 Ryka (IRE) S D Bowen27 Arabian Leopard Silvestre De Sousa28 Eazy On The Eye Grace McEntee Tip: Alfareqa 5.35pm: 1m4f (1m3f211y) King Edward VII Stakes (Group 2) (Colts & Geldings) (Class 1) (3yo) 1 Amiloc Rossa Ryan2 Convergent (IRE) Clifford Lee3 Galveston Wayne Lordan4 Green Storm (IRE) B Loughnane5 Minhad Tom Marquand6 Nightwalker Colin Keane7 Opportunity James Doyle8 Puppet Master (IRE) Ryan Moore9 Regal Ulixes Oisin Murphy10 Wimbledon Hawkeye Silvestre De Sousa11 Zahrann (IRE) Ben Coen Tip: Amiloc 6.10pm: 5f Palace Of Holyroodhouse Stakes (Handicap) (Class 2) (3yo 0-105) 1 Hammer The Hammer (IRE) Tom Eaves2 Mr Lightside (IRE) Kevin Stott3 Jungle Drums (IRE) Saffie Osborne4 Candy George Wood5 Miss Lamai (IRE) Clifford Lee6 Maw Lam (IRE) Jack Nicholls (7)7 Zayer (IRE) Hollie Doyle8 Stormy Impact Warren Fentiman (5)9 Redorange Rossa Ryan10 Bodhi Bear (IRE) Seamie Heffernan11 King's Call (IRE) D Swift12 Realign (FR) James Doyle13 Ruby's Profit (IRE) Kieran Shoemark14 Enola Holmes (IRE) David Probert15 Arctic Voyage Richard Kingscote16 Vingegaard (IRE) R Sexton17 Englemere (IRE) B Loughnane18 Red Sand (IRE) Tom Marquand19 Dark Cloud Rising Daniel Tudhope20 Suhail Star (IRE) Ashley Lewis (7)21 King Of Light Shane Foley22 King Of Bears (IRE) Callum Shepherd23 Adrestia Oisin Murphy24 Jorge Alvares (IRE) Colin Keane25 Brosay Edward Greatrex26 Brighton Boy (IRE) William Buick27 Lexington Blitz (IRE) Sean Levey28 Mearall (IRE) Shane Gray29 An Outlaw's Grace (IRE) Reserve 130 Topwarrior Reserve 231 Gold Star Hero (IRE) Reserve 3 Tip: Realign

Britain's 'most dangerous' prisoner's nephew spots startling 'change' in killer

Robert Maudsley's nephew has opened up about his serial killer uncle, revealing he is "not in a great place" following his transfer from 'Monster Mansion' prison. The notorious British prisoner, who holds the record for the longest incarceration in the UK, was moved from HMP Wakefield on April 8 to Whitemoor prison, some 125 miles away in Cambridgeshire, UK. He had spent a whopping 40 years straight inside Wakefield. According to Gavin, who shares a close relationship with Maudsley, the relocation hasn't sat well with him. Gavin detailed to Behind Bars TV: "In Whitemoor, to the best of our knowledge, he hasn't got his stuff. His regime is an hour out of his cell each day, and that is not an hour in the yard, within this hour you have to get your shower and all that. Any time you take a shower, that comes off your yard time. "He is not in a great place right now. I am still trying to confirm and verify if he has a TV or if he has his books and stuff – but I can't imagine how it will be for him if he hasn't." Maudsley's family, from Merseyside, are eagerly wanting to visit him – Gavin last met his uncle just weeks before the sudden prison change. Previously labelled as Britain's most dangerous prisoner, Maudsley had killed two inmates while inside Wakefield, adding to his grim record that began with the killing of John Farrell in 1974 and included the death of another at Broadmoor Hospital before his spree continued behind bars. He was infamously dubbed Hannibal the Cannibal after rumours spread that he had consumed the brains of one of his victims, and even though this was later debunked, the moniker persisted. Speaking about his notorious uncle Maudsley, Gavin told ex-con Ricky Killeen: "You will be hard pushed to find someone who can't empathise with what he has been through. I always say, nobody is born a serial killer, there is certain things to happen in one's life for it to end up in that place." After a spat with staff at Wakefield over "privileges", Maudsley reportedly went on a hunger strike lasting as long as five weeks, before his eventual transfer to a specialist unit in Whitemoor jail, Cambridgeshire. Now 71 and having spent the majority of his life in relative isolation following his spree of vigilante justice, Maudsley is said to be challenging his recent prison move. Gavin revealed that his uncle had settled into a "relatively comfortable" routine in Wakefield, noting that he had long come to terms with his whole life sentence and never sought to challenge it. Delving into the dynamics behind bars, Gavin shared: "Most of them (prison guards) respected him and would play chess with him, they would have conversations with him, and eventually he found himself in a position where he had a TV in his cell. "He had a PlayStation in his cell, he had his music system, his CDs, he had his books, he would get an hour in the gym, he would get an hour in the yard, and he would get an hour in the kitchen. "And for him, he said, 'All I ever wanted was my own space, Gavin, I've got it now.' Unfortunately it is in the underbelly of Wakefield, but he has got his own space." Gavin stated: "He had a phone in his cell in Wakefield, he doesn't now in Whitemoor. He had a phone and he could phone family and stuff like that. "He had his canteen money, he was only ever on basic because he wouldn't go into psychology programs. He was only on basic but he had what he needed. He was comfortable." Furthermore, Gavin voiced concerns about his uncle's well-being and mentioned how he's been informed that getting transferred back to Wakefield would be a "difficult" challenge. The Prison Service declined to comment on individual prisoners. However, a source told The Mirror that prisoners in Whitemoor prison receive at least one hour out of their cell per day. They also stressed that Maudsley has access to the exercise yard and that he does have his belongings along with a telephone in his cell.

What time and TV channel is the British and Irish Lions v Argentina on tonight

Andy Farrell's long wait to get back into the coaches box ends tonight as he returns to Lansdowne Road for the visit of Felipe Contepomi's Pumas in what is a novel fixture for the British and Irish Lions. Never before have the Lions played on Irish soil so that unwelcome record comes to an end here as Farrell gets down to business in a match scenario for the first time since Ireland's Autumn Series victory over Australia on November 30 of last year. Since then he has planned and plotted for this moment and, with many of his Leinster contingent still getting up to speed in Lions camp after their URC final success last weekend, there are six of his Ireland stars involved tonight. The game takes place at Aviva Stadium, Dublin The match kicks off at 8pm on Friday It will be shown live on TG4 (from 7.20pm) and on Sky Sports Main Event (from 7pm) The British and Irish Lions are 1/10 to win, Argentina are 13/2 to win, the draw is 30/1 Referee: James Doleman (New Zealand) Bundee Aki, Tadhg Beirne and Finlay Bealham are the three Ireland players who start the game, while replacements Tadhg Furlong and Mack Hansen are poised to make their return from injury and Rónan Kelleher will be hungry for his chance to shine when the time comes. Gavin Hastings: Scots Irish Lions combo one of highlights of special Aviva night

Lions legend Gavin Hastings is relishing the prospect of a Scots Irish collaboration at the Aviva Stadium. Connacht and Ireland's Bundee Aki will join with Sione Tuipulotu of Glasgow Warriors and Scotland in the Lions midfield for the clash with Argentina tonight. "I think a lot of people are looking forward to seeing that one," grinned Hastings, a three-time Lions tourist who made six Test appearances for the team and captained the squad on the 1993 tour in New Zealand that was won 2-1 by the All Blacks. "There's not going to be very many holes in that combination, obviously. But it'll be interesting to see how it goes, they're two very experienced and talented guys. "I think it's going to be a pretty stiff challenge for the Lions but, listen, you've got to play your first game somewhere, so you may as well be in front of your home supporters. There's no doubt it'll be a great game. I think they're very, very keen to get us off to a winning start. "I expect that the Lions to just be very, very competitive. That's what we want. Some people suggest that it might be sort of easy against Australia on the tour, but there's no way they're going to roll over. "So I think the Lions have got to work very, very hard for everything they're going to potentially achieve. Andy's a very experienced coach, and I'm sure he knows how to get the best out of them. And that's what it's all about." Hastings will be at the game after spending yesterday afternoon in the baking heat in Mullingar, where British and Irish Lions official charity partners LooseHeadz and Wooden Spoon hosted a successful Guinness World Record attempt to break the record for 'The Longest Game' of rugby for both men and women. It started on Wednesday and the men participating played for over 36 hours to raise over £100,000 to help tackle mental health. The previous world record was 24 hours, five minutes and 15 seconds. "There was never any question of me running around," the Scotland legend laughed. "I'm just here lending my support for a couple of hours. That's much better! "They were slightly on a go-slow given the heat. It's a great cause. Many people in Ireland wouldn't be as familiar with Wooden Spoon, they're a rugby charity, helping kids with difficulties and all the challenges that kids have and they're making their mark in Ireland as well. "The other charity here is Looseheadz. One in four people are affected with mental health and we all know of rugby people that have faced difficulties. "One of my great adversaries, John Carter, one of the great Kiwi guys, was probably one of the very first to say that he had struggled with mental health during his career. "It's great that people are talking about it. I'm chairman of the Lions Trust and we support a number of different charities, among them Looseheadz and Wooden Spoon. "These guys have put this longest game of rugby on and good on them. I think they've already raised well over £200,000, and they want to get to a quarter of a million if possible. Amazing." There is a JustGiving donation page for The Longest Game here: and the LooseHeadz charity can be found here

Tipperary star says he retired knowing good times were coming again

The recent win over Waterford put a stop to a couple of troubling runs that Tipperary had been on. Firstly, it was their first home Championship win since 2019 while, when added to the win over Clare in Ennis, it meant that they had also bridged a six-year gap to when they last recorded successive Championship victories. 'It's probably a reflection of how competitive Munster is,' says Patrick 'Bonner' Maher, who retired after last year's desperately disappointing Championship campaign. 'That's just being honest. 'You look at the fact that the current All-Ireland champions are out of the Championship already. Munster is an absolute pit and it's touch and go on the teams to get out of there. 'Obviously Limerick have been so dominant in the last while but I think the rest of the group are beginning to catch up, which is good to see. But as a stat, no back-to-back wins since 2019 was a very disappointing one from a Tipp point of view." The win over Laois last Saturday was their third on the spin and a fourth against Galway in tomorrow's All-Ireland quarter-final would bridge yet another gap to 2019. There's one more too: a victory would send Tipperary into their first semi-final in six years, which is already the longest streak that they've had without reaching the last four since 1971-87. They have lost quarter-finals to tomorrow's opponents in 2020 and 2023, as well as to Waterford in 2021. Maher was injured two years ago and so didn't feature against Galway, though the game had a similar backdrop to this one as Tipp had just come through a routine preliminary quarter-final against Offaly seven days earlier. 'I remember that game down in Limerick, we were fully primed,' he recalled. 'One or two things went against us, goals went against us and it just deflated us that day. 'But I don't think it had anything to do with the Offaly game the week before, to be honest. I just think Galway were hungrier on the day and they just got over the line.' Maher was always going to call it quits regardless of how the 2024 season played out, but it still represented an inglorious end to his decorated career. The recent uplift doesn't give him any cause for regret at not giving it another year, however. 'I was happy to walk away at that stage with the body in semi-good nick and being able to walk away with a bit of pride in myself. 'Coming to the end of '24, I knew that the campaign didn't go well, but I could see the green shoots that were in there around the group. I knew Tipperary would do well moving forward. 'Another thing I said to myself was maybe the time for me to step away is now and give some younger player, one of them under-20s, an opportunity to come into the panel, take a place, and drive it on from there.' His departure left just one survivor from the 2010 All-Ireland winning side - Noel McGrath, who is still doing a job for the team. Maher added: "We can all see that Noel is a generational player. He's always had it since we were playing together at minor and I suppose under-16 level. He's always had something special about him. Fair play to him, he's some operator. 'It was a joy to play beside him for so long. You probably don't see half the work that he does away from the field to get himself into the condition. He looks after himself fierce well to still be able to operate at the level he is. 'He's up there with one of the best club hurlers in Tipperary as well. You'll see him any day lining out for Loughmore and how he can make the sliotar talk. It's great to see that he's still doing the job and it looks like there's plenty left in the tank with him too, which is great to see."
